Emmi Smid is a Dutch content-driven illustrator, as well as an author and illustrator of picture books that convey and tackle difficult topics. Her work often focuses on societal and mental health topics, and she is a keen believer in breaking taboos using the power of stories. She lives and works in Arnhem, the Netherlands. She writes and publishes her works and books in both Dutch and English, as the colourful city of Brighton (UK) is a place she fondly used to call home.
Emmi loves converting ideas and narratives into posters, flyers, booklets, social media content and merchandise. She very much enjoys working together to create something exciting and bespoke to help you convey your message. She is available for commissions and would love to talk ideas with you.
Emmi thinks that children are some of the wisest creatures on this planet. She believes that picture books are the perfect vehicle to introduce young children to difficult, profound topics, without feeling like they are being lectured to. Therefore, Emmi enjoys designing picture books that tackle social taboos and highlight current global topics. She is committed to encouraging diversity, equality and solidarity, both inside and outside the books she designs.
